We teach weekly classes at the Woodlane Social Club in Falmouth. After the classes we usually head to 5 Degrees West to practice with our favourite band, The Great Western Jazz Company. There’s no need to come with a partner. You don’t need to book in advance, or have any experience. Simply show up to any Beginner class! See below for descriptions of our Beginner/Improver and Intermediate classes.
On the first Thursday of every month the Beginner/Improver and Intermediate classes will each be 40 minutes long, with a 40 minute social dance in between. This is the ideal opportunity for beginners to try out their new moves and get to know more experienced dancers. If you’d like to try move up to the Intermediate class this is the perfect time to try. The Intermediate class will cover something that Improvers can give a go, and attending both classes will be just £8.
We have three payment options:
- Pay weekly, £5 per person, in cash on the door.
- Sofa to Swing Out! £40 for 10 classes, two Tea Parties, and a masterclass. Amazing value! More info here.
- 10-class pass card that can be used any time, £40 per person, in cash on the door.
7.30 – 8.30pm Beginner / Improver
You will learn the fundamentals of Lindy Hop, Rock n Roll, and 20s and 30s Charleston. We’ll cover “pulse”, 8-count and 6-count rhythms, steps you can do with a partner and by yourself, and how to lead and follow so that you can dance with anyone. Come to this class if you’re not sure about your level or want to try for the first time. You can start this class at any time. There is no need to bring a partner and any comfortable shoes will be suitable.
8.30 – 9.30pm Intermediate
This class builds on moves learnt in the Beginners/Improvers class, showing you how to combine them with new steps to give you more confidence on the dance floor. We’ll continue to work on good technique so that you look stylish and can improvise variations.
Movin’ on up – from Improvers to Intermediate
Once you are confident in Swing Outs, Lindy Circles and partner Charleston then you are probably ready for the next level of classes, and should chat to a teacher about moving up.
Check out our event calendar for any changes in our regular classes.
